SERVICE CAREER IN THE PERCEPTION AND EVALUATION OF PUBLIC SERVANTS OF THE REGION

The article resents the results of sociological research of public servants of the Belgorod region (n = 346) concerning optimization of their professional selfrealization and service career. Most of respondents (69,3 %) positively evaluate the possibility of self-realization. With age and increasing length of service there occurs a tendency to improve the estimated indicators (coefficient of self-realization and sensitivity index). Coefficient of professional self-employment is comparatively lower among women. Professional career has high personal significance for 75 % of the respondents, especially for men and young people. It is associated first of all with the acquisition of new knowledge, skills, abilities, wage increases, development of new kinds of work, professional advancement. Conditions of service career are estimated as favorable (21,7 %), acceptable (34,4 %), tolerant (21,4 %), unfavorable (10,4 %). Comparatively less optimistic assessments are expressed by women and middle-aged respondents. The most respondents assess their chances for professional advancement as «normal», every fifth – «minor» and only 6,9 % consider them «significant». The tendency of reduction of the chances of professional advancement takes place with age. The authors established the factors that are most conducive to professional advancement. The ranked list of said factors is as follows (in descending order of importance): 1) professionalism, 2) the availability of professional experience, 3) professional and work achievements, 4) the desire to improve professional skills, 5) work experience in the organization, 6) good relationships with the leader, his/her support, 7) the ability to work creatively in a team, 8) desire for career development, 9) the ability to show him/herself a good worker, 10) good relationships with colleagues, their support, 11) the recognition by colleagues and people around. The results of the study lead to the conclusion about necessity and possibility of optimizing the professional and work self-realization and service career of civil servants.
